Understanding Common Washing Machine Error Codes (4C, E18, 1E)

Published on: August 19, 2026

Modern washing machines are smart enough to tell you exactly what is wrong. However, an error code like "4C" or "E18" can look like a secret language. Here is a quick guide from our Salem repair team on what these common codes mean.

Samsung: 4C or 4E Error Code

What it means: Water Supply Issue.

The machine is not getting enough water. This is usually caused by a kinked water inlet hose, a closed water tap, or a clogged mesh filter inside the water connection. Make sure your Salem home's water supply valve is fully open.

Siemens / Bosch: E18 Error Code

What it means: Drain Issue.

The machine is taking too long to drain the water. This is almost always caused by a blocked drain pump filter or a blocked drain hose. Check the bottom right corner of your machine, open the flap, and clean the filter.

LG: 1E or IE Error Code

What it means: Water Inlet Error.

Similar to Samsung's 4C, the LG 1E code means water is not filling the tub properly. Check for low water pressure, kinked hoses, or a blocked inlet valve filter.
