Front Load Washing Machine Leaking Water? Here is How to Fix It
Published on: August 19, 2026
One of the most common issues Salem residents face with their washing machines is water leakage, especially from front-load models. A leaking machine can damage your flooring and is often a sign of a deeper mechanical issue.
Common Causes of a Leaking Front Load Washing Machine
- Damaged Door Gasket (Seal): The rubber seal around the door can accumulate dirt, coins, or simply wear out over time, breaking the watertight seal.
- Loose or Damaged Hoses: The water inlet hoses or the drain hose at the back of the machine might be loose, cracked, or clogged.
- Clogged Drain Filter: Most front load machines have a small drain filter at the bottom front. If this is clogged with lint or hair, water can back up and leak.
- Too Much Detergent: Using non-HE (High Efficiency) detergent or simply using too much can cause excessive suds, which can force water out of the machine.
What You Can Do
First, unplug the machine. Check the rubber door seal for any tears or trapped objects. Clean the seal thoroughly with a damp cloth. Next, check the hoses at the back to ensure they are tightly connected. Finally, open the small hatch at the bottom front and clean out the drain filter (have a towel ready!).
Still Leaking?
If you've checked the basics and the machine is still leaking, it might be an internal pump or tub issue. PSA Home Appliances offers expert washing machine repair in Salem.
